The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. (BTMU) announced that it will hold the “Fintech Challenge 2016 - Bring Your Own Bank!” Hackathon in March 12 - 13, 2016. As Hackathon is a multi-day coding event that brings together computer developers and others to build new software programs, the bank’s event focuses on the possibilities of Open Bank APIs as BTMU utilizes information and communication technology (ICT) to seek new ideas on the theme of making financial services closer and more convenient through ICT.

In the world of the Internet, more and more companies release various services available online through APIs, and API economy that creating new value has been growing. In the financial service industry, disclosing APIs helps the companies expand their business.

In the light of the changing environment, this year BTMU held “BTMU Fintech Challenge 2015” contest to find outstanding and innovative techniques and ideas in information and communication technology. Following the FinTech contest, the bank will seek to create new innovative financial services through open innovation at “Fintech Challenge 2016 Hackathon” next year. The event will be co-organized by TIS Inc, Samurai Incubate.inc, Apigee Corporation and dots. which is managed by Intelligence, Ltd.

On December 18, 2015, the official website will be launched and the event will start accepting applications during the period from January 12, 2016 to February 7, 2016. And before the Hackathon, an Ideathon will be held on March 4.
