SUMITOMO MITSUI BANKING COPORATION (SMBC) partnered with National Institute of informatics to conduct joint research on blockchain technology for financial business as part of academic-industrial alliance.

In recent years, blockchain technology has gained increasing attention as a core technology of crypto currencies and is expected to be utilized for various businesses. However the utilization of blockchain technology for actual business is still in early phase, so accumulating know-how about blockchain technology is required.

In the light of circumstances, the bank decided to build up the know-how based on the academic insight by the cooperative research with National Institute of informatics. The bank aims to develop new services with ventures and create new possibilities of blockchain technology for financial business to realize open innovation.
