Japan Securities Dealers Association published usage of NISA (Nippon (Japan) Individual Savings Account) as of March 31, 2016. NISA is a new type of tax exemption program for small investments launched in January, 2014. After the launch of NISA, Junior NISA (for people under the age of 20) has just been finally tradable from this month. Many securities firms such as GMO Click Securities and SBI Securities had prepared for the launch of Junior NISA with conducting campaigns, accepting applications earlier etc.

The statistics is based on data provided by 10 leading companies consisting of 5 securities companies and 5 online securities companies.

As of March 31, 2016, the total number of existing NISA account is 4,863,586, increased by 1.1% (53,547 accounts) from the previous month while the active accounts totaled 2,792,956, which accounted for 57.4% of the total existing accounts. The ratio stays flat as the previous figure was 57.3% in the previous month.

The total trading volume at NISA in March was 140.6 billion JPY, and the cumulative trading volume was 3,827.3 billion JPY from January, 2014, increased by 3.8% from February.
