The Financial Futures Association of Japan ( FFAJ ) published the monthly retail OTC binary options report for August, 2016.

The total volume of OTC binary option trading for the month decreased by 21.1% month-over-month to 35.1 billion JPY, also decreased by 27.8% from the same month last year.

The number of existing accounts at the end of the month was 350,123, of which 11,194 were active accounts. As you can see the below graph (Binary Option Accounts), the number of active account has downtrended in the long term.

We saw GBP/JPY pair had the biggest drop of 58.6% in August, declined to 4,880,935,000 JPY, but this indicates the currency pair went back to the normal level as July and June had unusual trading volume due to the Brexit referendum. The pair still maintains its position of the second most traded currency pair.

The most popular pair, USD/JPY were traded 17,327,368,000 JPY fot the month, which slightly decreased by 3.97% from the previous month. It accounted for 49.3% among all currency pairs.
